Music in Bernini's Rome + Traditional Roman Dinner

The magnificent church of Sant'Agnese in Agone was built in the 17th century overlooking the Piazza Navona. It is considered the jewel of Baroque architecture, and was designed for Pope Innocent X by the major architects of the time: Rainaldi, Borromini, and Bernini. The church was named for the early Christian Agnes who was martyred here when the square was still the stadium of Domitian. Under the guidance of an art history expert, you'll discover the details of Sant'Agnese's architecture and art, Bernini's sculptures, and the frescoed tambour supporting the church's dome.

Gianlorenzo Bernini's work is a ubiquitous architectural presence in Rome – and he also the designed the notable Fountain of the Four Rivers, located in front of the church. The church has recently been restored, and hosts the “Music in Bernini's Rome” Itinerary - a guided visit followed by a live Baroque music concert in one of the most prestigious and unique performance places in Rome.

The Schola Romana Ensemble will perform the glorious music of the day on original Baroque instruments. There is nothing quite like hearing the creations of the greatest composers of the time in a space so suited to it. The program includes works by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Giacomo Carissimi, Claudio Monteverdi, Andrea Falconieri, John Dowland, Jean Le Cocq, and others. You will hear works for soprano, alto, and bass voice, percussions, dulciana, recorder, traversa (Renaissance flute), and Baroque guitar.

Music stimulates emotions and imagination – so immerse yourself in the artistic climate of a unique era as you complement the sight of superb works of art with the pleasure springing from live music and song.

After your Art and Music experience, you’ll have the opportunity to continue your evening with the tastes of Rome. La Scaletta degli Artisti, a truly special Roman restaurant near the church, will add to your full sensory experience.
