Florence

Your bus leaves Rome in a northerly direction and cross the green valley of the Tiber. You'll pass the slopes of the Apennines covered with olive groves and vineyards to reach the famous Chianti valley, before arriving in Florence built on the banks of the river Arno.

Your city tour starts with a visit to the Accademia Museum where you will see the magnificent David by Michelangelo before continuing on foot with your local guide to see the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo, one of the symbols of Florence. It is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Italy. The extraordinary Cupola of Brunelleschi's Dome is filled with breathtaking paintings by Vasari, constituting the largest fresco in the world, just as the structure is the largest brick dome ever built. Discover other treasures of the cathedral complex – such as the Baptistry and Giotto's Bell Tower – before you continue on to the Piazza della Signoria, the heart of Florence.

It'll be time for your lunch (included in tour price) – enjoy a delicious meal in a traditional Florentine restaurant before resuming your walk in the afternoon and making you way to Piazza Santa Croce where the church of the same name is situated. The marble facade encloses one of the most beautiful sacred edifices ever built, the largest Franciscan church in the world, a must visit. Known as the “Temple of the Italian Glories,” Santa Croce is the burial place of great Italians such as Michelangelo, Galileo, and Rossini.

To conclude your day in Florence, you will have the opportunity to visit a leather shop and admire this Florentine craft tradition, and you'll also have some free time to see the work of local goldsmiths and other traditional craftsmen – and find some souvenirs and gifts.

Departure from Florence at approximately 5.00pm for your return journey to central Rome.
