Overview

In a fascinating night atmosphere, from June to September, it will be possible to visit the most famous amphitheater in the world, and to the exhibition Divo Vespasiano, dedicated to the emperors who built it. Protagonists will be Archaeology, History and the Colosseum, in a lights and shadows show.

A series of extraordinary openings of the Colosseum during night hours on Tuesday and Thursday on June, July and September as follows:

• entrance from the Nord gate (Pope's gate)
• visit to the exhibition Divo Vespasiano
• view from the 1st floor, with visit to the cavea (illuminated by the lob)
• view from the Piazza with the Venus' Temple and the Constantine Arc from the other side; descent from the 1st floor and stop at the service galleries (exit from the guardians' side)

Details

As part of the culture promotional program Archaeology during the Summer, the Soprintendenza speciale per i beni archeologici di Roma opens a series of extraordinary openings of the Colosseum in night hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, except during August.

It will be possible to enter the site through a guided trail describing the Colosseum and the story of the famous imperial family who built it: in this way, it will be easier understanding all the events related to the construction of this amphitheater, from the choice of the place to the insertion of the monument in the complex building activity of the Flavio family.
